Julie Sweet - A Role Model of Excellence: “3 Weeks to Change, 2 Years to Own It” Julie Sweet: (World Aerobics Champion, Best Selling Author, Speaker)

Julie Sweet is a perfect example of a life filled with fitness, good health, and discipline. This world known aerobics’ champion has spent her life mastering fitness and created the most innovative ways to get everyone off the couch.

Her best selling book “365 Activities for Fitness, Food, and Fun for the Whole Family” is now in its second print as other countries look to her for advice. And they should! Julie's ideas can turn your home into a virtual gym using anything and everything to make fitness fun for the whole family.

My early morning conversation with her proved that a lifetime of fitness is something everyone should model. It is rare to meet a person so passionate, energetic, and positive about life. While most people are rubbing their eye’s still trying to wake up, Julie’s day is in high gear.

One thing that struck me with our long conversation was how compassionate she is to those who struggle each day with weight issues. She knows everyone has a bad day and that is ok. Her reply to that is “just don’t look in the rear view mirror.” In other words, get back up, try again, and that pattern of healthy living will set in.

I can relate as a person brought up living on Mac & Cheese and eating out of garbage cans. Growing up in poverty the last thing on my mind was dietary issues, I just wanted to survive. Little did I know this type of up bringing would shape me the wrong way for years to come.

It took almost two decades for the thought of a healthy lifestyle to even cross my mind. I soon realized that this type of living doesn’t just happen, it’s a thought process. Unfortunately if you came from the wrong side of the tracks; like I did, it would take a long time to install. Once I realized that it starts by loving yourself the process was easier to accomplish. No pill or fad can do that. It all comes from inside your soul. I will admit it is a struggle, but it’s never too late to change.

Julie’s lifetime of fitness was taught at a very young age by parents on the forefront of simple healthy living. Outdoor life to her became common place with endless activities and little television time. Julie even joked about having only a few channels to watch. This should be a good lesson for all of us who raise our children with television being the forefront instead of us.

One thing I can guarantee is by your lead, your children will follow. Our children see and hear everything we do good or bad so your lead is their lead. Julie’s life is a perfect example of how to get us off the couch so our kids will follow. Passion for anything is infectious and those around you will feel what you are doing. More than likely, they will want to do the same.

To change your life you must change your life. Julie’s book will help by leading you. Then take that knowledge and pass it around to lead others. This fitness mom is my hero. Why not have her be yours as well.
